Continuity Video Editing Practice
For this task I was handed a bunch of random clips showing Chris making and drinking a cup of tea. My job was to create a sequence that shown continuity.
Continuity is a term used in film which means several shots placed together to create one scene which appears seamless. The viewer isn’t meant to be able to notice that editing has taken place because it all looks like one motion. It almost like one continued scene was filmed with several cameras, but the reality is that there is only one camera and if you want to shoot from a certain angle then you have to film everything separately.
For this task I used Adobe Premiere Pro, the software used for editing pieces of film together.

Rough Edit & Ways to Improve
Rough Edit & Ways to Improve
As we are filming the scenes in chronological order, there are no scenes that need filming that take place between any existing scenes. We have shot about half of the film, so will hopefully wrap up the project soon.
Hopefully it won’t take too long to complete the film as it isn’t very difficult to complete scenes as we are using the handheld technique so can just literally film as we go along. As the film is silent, we have decided to not bother with the sound recording equipment either; we have decided to just add a soundtrack to the film.
A few of the scenes, mainly the bathroom one ones, will need to be shot again as the focus is off so the scenes are very blurry. The scenes also aren’t very clear as to what is actually happening, such as the part where my shirt is on back to front and I have to take it off and put it back on again. I am going to film these scenes again so the transitions look much smoother and everyone knows exactly what it going on.

PRE-PRODUCTION
Strengths:
- Although for another film, the storyboards were done well and showed what would happen in the film clearly.
- For my film, the script was professional and technically good. For James’ film (the original film we chose) I was chosen to do the final edit of his original script.
- We created a good pitch and performed it well in front of a couple of teachers and a man who works for the BBCWeaknesses: - The risk assessment could have been more thorough
- The location reccy could have had more locations in and have a lot more detail
- Although when I did post into my Production Log, it contained a detailed explanation of goings-on, I didn’t make enough posts. Sometimes there was a period of 3 weeks maybe where I didn’t post.

PRODUCTION
Strengths: - Considering all the setbacks that occurred, we did shoot the scenes very well using the handheld technique. The final edit of the film will look quite strange as the characters inexplicably have different clothes on towards the end of the film but we didn’t let this stop us from filming what turned out to be a few fairly good scenes
- We chose very good locations which fitted our film perfectly.
- None of us are Oscar worthy actors but considering none of us have ever done it before, and the film was silent, we did very well at conveying what we were saying or doing without using any dialogue.

Weaknesses: - As mentioned above, continuity didn’t quite go to plan. We faced many problems with people not turning up, changing which film we would do, and what days to come into college wearing the same clothes.
- We could have organised it much better. Yes, we had problems but we still could have gone out of our way to get the shooting wrapped up with the deadline rapidly approaching.
-They were eventually sorted out, but a lot of the scenes appeared blurry because the focus of the camera was off and we didn’t double check. By doing re-shoots we wasted valuable time.

POST-PRODUCTION
Strengths: - I thought I have edited the film fairly well. It isn’t perfect by any means but with my limited experience and the difficult nature of the clips it was quite hard to edit it seamlessly and perfectly.
